Moving First Generation College Students Forward
“As a first-generation college student, you carry the hopes of your family, the dreams of past generations, and the innate tenacity that strengthens your journey. With the unwavering support of your community, the guiding light of hope, and the resilience to persevere, you transform barriers into stepping stones, paving the way not only to achieve education but also to inspire others to dream boldly and pursue opportunities once thought unattainable.”

In Texas, only 25% of Latino adults aged 25 and older have earned an associate degree or higher, compared to 51% of White non-Hispanic adults. The challenge is even greater in Laredo, Texas, where approximately 33% of adults have not completed high school, and only 14% hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.
At the Adelante Institute, we believe education, professional development, and community are the key to breaking these barriers and empowering the next generation. By supporting first-generation college students, we aim to create a ripple effect of success within families and communities, fostering a brighter, more equitable future for all.
